About the artist
Georges Spiro (1909-1994) was a Polish and French artist. He moved to France in 1938, after being arrested in Vienna by the German occupying forces for his publishing work. A natural prodigee, he began teaching himself to paint in 1942.
The 1943 domestic scene presented here is one of his early works. In 1946, Spiro had an acclaimed exhibition at the Arcade Gallery in London, and he became a full-time artist. In 1948, he received the “Young Artist Award” in France. International exhibitions ensued and Spiro is now represented in major museums worldwide.
