Edmund Anton Kohlschein (1900-1996), German

Born into a family of artists, Kohlschein spent his life painting dynamic scenes of nature, amid the upheavals of two World Wars. An early member of the Expressionist movement Junges Rheinland, he exhibited in Berlin, Vienna, Paris, The Hague, Moscow and Brussels.

With its elegant colour palette, dynamic structure and confident brushwork, this highly accomplished tempera on canvas radiates vitality. Signed lower right, presented in its original frame.
