About the artist
Jean Campa (1933–2024) was a French sculptor known for his distinctive cast aluminum works.
An industrial designer by training, he pivoted to dental surgery but gradually dedicated himself to his artistic practice. His first works in clay were figurative, but his passion for jazz inspired him to translate musical improvisation to physical abstract forms.
He frequented artists such as Gérard Schneider, Etienne Martin, Jean Villeri, René Char, André Verdet and Consuelo de Saint-Exupéry who supported him in developing his practice. His cast aluminum sculptures feature in a number of public collections.
